PU gaskets for recyclable HEPA filters with clean systems technology

Modern filtration technology, produced with a biomass of corncobs and wood flour. That doesn’t sound like it should work, right? But it does. Bio HoKu® is the new recyclable Z-line filter frame. It is the only one of its kind in the world. It was launched by the Swiss manufacturer of filtration technology, Tecnofil. The frame of the Bio HoKu® is produced from 80 per cent organic content. It consists of polylactic acid (PLA), which is obtained from waste from the renewable raw materials of corn and wood (EU). No agricultural land is used for this purpose. The filter frame contains no microplastics and is produced via injection moulding. 70 per cent less CO² is produced during the production process compared to conventional plastics.

The finished Z-line filter, sold under the brand name Home-Fil®, is used in residential installations and ventilation systems. To ensure that there are no leaks and that the filter in the system seals optimally, a polyurethane (PU) gasket is applied to one side. This is necessary to ensure that the filter offers a high level of safety.


Automated application of PU gaskets

The PU gaskets are applied with dynamicLine from DOPAG. The material is processed in a dynamic mixing head and the liquid gasket is then applied by means of a linear robot. It then hardens at room temperature. Handling is carried out manually. The user places one filter frame at a time on a workpiece carrier, then the material application begins, and the robot moves along the contour. Markus Schneiter is COO and operations manager at Tecnofil. Clean operation of dynamicLine

Environmental friendliness is also an important factor in the production of the gaskets. Automatically applied gaskets generate significantly less waste than manually applied gaskets. The small volume of waste can also be disposed of with regular household waste. Furthermore, the system is rinsed exclusively with water and free of solvents during operation. Hazardous waste is avoided, and businesses can save materials and thus also costs, while maintaining high quality.
